I have two MacBooks in my house: a late 2008 Black MacBook running 10.5.8 and a late 2009 aluminum MacBook Pro (13 inch) running 10.5.8. They both have 250 GB hard drives: the older has a FUJITSU MJA2250BH and the newer has a FUJITSU MJA2250BH FFS G1.
I want to switch the two hard drives in the MacBooks, as in pull them out of their respective machines and install each in the other's machine. My reason for doing this is that the older machine is MINE, with all of my info and applications on it, and the newer is my mom's, with all of her stuff, but I'm the one who needs the upgraded hardware and graphics capability. I'm hoping to make a switch between the two machines without having to reinstall OS X or back up any data.
Is this possible? Any help or testimony is greatly welcomed. Thanks!

Use external storage devices with Mac. External hard drives, thumb drives, USB drives, Flash memory cards, and devices like iPod are examples of storage devices that you can connect to your Mac using Thunderbolt, USB, or FireWire cables, or connect wirelessly using Bluetooth. To format an external hard drive for Mac with Time Machine, you must follow the steps below. Step 1 Open Finder, Applications, then go to Utilities and Disk Utility. Step 2 Follow the steps above to format the drive, and then you can use it with Time Machine on your Mac system. If your external hard drive goes kablooey and your internal hard drive lacks a user folder, you won’t be able to boot that drive into a fully functioning account. With that extra account, you can.
